Daily Practices to Resource Ourselves

4-week series designed for parents and caregivers of young children.
Anyone can attend.

As busy people attempting to tend to daily demands (jobs, tasks, family members) as well as our emotional lives, we often do not internally resource ourselves. Yet we are constantly bombarded with information that triggers painful, often overwhelming, suffering. How do we create space for resourcing ourselves so that we can show up and be present for difficult challenges, particularly with regards to racism, trauma, and difficult dynamics? In this workshop, we will talk about daily practices to resource ourselves so that we have emotional reserves for the challenges that arise and the healing that is necessary. This four-week program is offered as part of a Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program. Participants will be asked to fill out a brief evaluation at the end of the series.

Rima Vesely-Flad

is a Buddhist practitioner in the Insight tradition, a scholar of race, religion, social justice, and a mother to two active children. She teaches dharma courses from the perspective of Black writers, and has just completed a book Black Buddhists and the Black Radical Tradition: The Practice of Stillness in the Movement for Liberation (forthcoming, NYU Press, 2022). In the course of writing this most recent book, she interviewed more than 40 Black Buddhist teachers and practitioners, and committed to a daily practice of meditation, yoga, and exercise. This foundation provided by daily practices shifted her parenting and ability to work with grief, rage, and trauma.
